There can be few more dangerous places in the world today than Iraq, and the authors of this new volume traveled in Iraq to conduct research and gather photos for this volume. The focus is entirely on the 1st Cavalry Division (First Team), which in OIF II, was responsible for security in and around Baghdad, the nation's capitol.
Special Ops. Volume 36 is a very complete description and summary of the 1st Cavalry Division. The book covers the division's organization, provides a brief history, before delving into its deployment into Iraq. Of course this book concentrates on the various missions performed by "First Team" while stationed in Iraq. These include the bitter fighting in places like Fallujah and Najaf, which are covered in detail. There are also particular spotlight features on units such as 2-5 CAV(Task Force Lancer), the 3rd Brigade Combat Team protecting the "Green Zone" in the heart of Baghdad, the 4th Brigade providing aviation support, the 39th Brigade Combat Team (Bowie Brigade), and 2-7 CAV.
